What is The Green Deal Home Improvement Fund?

You may have heard about ‘The Green Deal’ over the past year through various sources, well now it’s changing again.

Let me introduce you to ‘The Green Deal Home Improvement Fund’ or GDHIF which launched this month. The scheme will be open for one year with a guarantee on rates for the first £50m. Under the scheme, homeowners can receive funding to take on more costly heat savings measures for example Solid Wall Insulation.

Homeowners in England and wales can receive cashback for taking measures to improve the efficiency of their homes. Each homeowner can claim upto £1000 as a cashback for choosing to install two eligble energy saving improvement measures within their home.

The measures include:

  • Condensing mains gas boiler
  • Passive Flue Gas Heat Recovery Device
  •  External/internal wall insulation (at least 50% of external walls)
  • Cavity wall insulation (at least 50% of external walls)
  • Secondary glazing (must apply to 50% of the windows in the property)
  • Double/triple glazing to replace single glazing (must apply to 50% of the windows in the property)
  • Flat roof insulation (insulate total roof area of the individual property
  • Replacement warm air unit
  • Fan assisted storage heaters (at least 3)
  • Energy efficient replacement doors (At least 2 external doors to be improved)
  • Floor insulation (At least 50% of ground floor)
  • Room-in-roof insulation (must insulate all of the roof)
  • Waste water heat recovery

The Green Deal Home Improvement Fund is available to homeowners in England and Wales, owners-occupiers and private and social landlords.

Homeowners can claim up to:

  • A maximum of £6,000 for the installation of solid wall insulation (which should be up to 75% of the total cost of installation).
  • £1,000 for installing two improvements from the list of eligible measures listed below.
  • If you have bought your house in the last 12 months, a further £500 cash back is available.
  • £100 for a Green Deal Assessment Report that has been carried out within last 2 years.
